An Accessible Adventure for the Whole Family

Meet Anna, who has a hearing impairment, joined us for a family kayaking experience with her adult daughter, son in law and five year old granddaughter.

“Sharing this experience with three generations of my family was incredibly special. The visual instructions helped me feel confident, included and supported from the very beginning.” — Anna

We adapted our safety briefing and paddling induction using Auslan, visual demonstrations and clear gestures. The family then set off in two stable double kayaks, with Anna paddling alongside her daughter and her son in law paddling with their young daughter.

Throughout the tour, our guides remained mindful of their positioning, eye contact and visual communication, ensuring Anna could clearly understand important instructions on the water.

With small but thoughtful adaptations, three generations were able to share one unforgettable Sydney Harbour adventure.
